During delivery of the baby, the vagina and its surrounding muscles get stretched. These stretched muscles seldom return to their orginal, pre pregnancey diameter. And as the number of babies increases, the condition gets worse. This results in lack of satisfaction for both the partners. Candidates for vaginoplasty are thus women who have undergone pregnancy.

Vaginoplasty may also be needed in case of repeated intercourse. In either case, the tightening of vagina involves tightening of the entire canal as well as the introitus (the entry point). After successful vaginoplasty, the size of the vagina returns to ‘normal’ or pre delivery days. A vaginoplasty procedure lasts for about 1 to 2 hours and is carried out under anesthesia. The patient will have a discomfort at the operated area for the first few days. The condition can be alleviated by pain medications. The healing process is completed within two months of the procedure. As the sutures are dissolving or absorbing, there is no need to remove them. You can resume all normal activities at the end of two months, but you can return to work within a week of the procedure.

Please note that vaginoplasty will not cure sexual dysfunction; it will however improve sexual function and make a woman feel better about herself.
